Location: Dwór Wejmutka, located in the charming Bialowieza village, the Podlasie province of NE Poland, features cosy and quiet guest rooms with balconies, from which the unforgettable spring chorus of amphibian sound may be heard, and lounge comforts where fireside conversation is inspired by the events of each day. There is a splendid flower-filled garden and a large terrace from which guests may observe birds without even leaving the premises. The famous Bialowieza Forest is a vast ancient lowland forest containing a diversity of conifers and broadleaved trees and is covering 141,885 hectares. This legendary forest, extending into neighbouring Belarus, has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It is also home to the world’s largest population of European Bison - a truly iconic mammal. Best reached by car from Warsaw International Airport, or by train to Hajnówka (17 km away), visitors may explore the forest and search for its wildlife on foot or by bike.
Services: A diverse and rich wildlife includes 250 bird species, and a large array of notable mammals, amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates. All European woodpeckers and forest grouses are present, plus Great Grey, Tengmalm’s and Pygmy Owls, Spotted and Lesser-spotted Eagles, also White and Black Storks, Crane, Corncrake, Nutcracker, Collared and Red-breasted Flycatchers - the list goes on. An easily accessible Great Snipe lek is a star feature of Bialowieza. Birdwatching from Wejmutka is rewarding the year round, presenting an impressive diversity of eastern specialities. Large mammals such as Wolf and Lynx are also seriously possible. A few very experienced bird guides are available on request, as well as equipment: binoculars, rubber boots, flashlights, bicycles, maps and specialized books. Our competent staff are able to provide all manner of information and help guests plan their stay, or hire guides that will escort them to the best locations in the area.
