Rating:

Country: Papua New Guinea

Region: Western Highlands

We speak: English

Web site: www.pngtours.com/lodge6.html

Location: Rondon Ridge Lodge is perched high on Kum Mountain, at 7100 feet above sea level in Western Highlands Province and boasts panoramic views of the Wahgi Valley and the Mount Hagen Range. This is the heart of the Papua New Guinean highlands with its’ coffee and tea plantations and extensive gardens. The area also supplies fresh fruit and vegetables to the rest of the country. It is inhabited by the Melpa tribe well-known for a society where “big men” earn status by accruing wealth and then giving it all away in a ceremonial exchange called “Moka”. Rondon Ridge is approximately 60 minutes from the Kagamuga Airport. Several daily flights from Port Moresby, PNG’s Capital city, to Mount Hagen make it easily accessible for International arrivals.

Services: A comprehensive touring program can be organized to visit the famous Mudmen and various villages displaying the customs and traditions of the Melpa people accompanied by our experienced local guides. Birding tours can also be arranged with knowledgeable local escorts. Birding is done primarily from the lodge on well groomed trails that climb through the mountain rainforest. Meals are served in the main lodge dining room and menus are served with European style recipes. Tables can be arranged according to guest requirements. A bar and lounge area are also in the main lodge with coffee and tea available at any time. Filtered water is provided and a filling station is located in the lodge should you wish to carry your own bottle. Transfers to and from the airport are also available. Rondon has 24-hour eco-friendly electricity provided by its own hydroelectric power plant. This generates clean, natural energy from a nearby mountain stream. It is 240 Volt with Australian style power points.

Guestrooms: Guests are accommodated in 12 tastefully appointed rooms with warmed king beds (double and twin) for cool highland nights. The rooms are finished in local rosewood, cane and bamboo with tile flooring. Electric blankets and continental quilts are available for the cool highland evenings. A double door opens to greet the 180 degree views. Each room has an ensuite modern bathroom with a shower and basic amenities. There is hot and cold running water and flush toilet. Bed linen and towels are provided and a daily housekeeping service ensures that your room is comfortable at all times. Filtered water is provided and a coffee/tea service is available in each room.
